About the Molloy Group
The Origins of the Molloy Group
The origins of the Molloy Group go back to 1933, when Martin Molloy purchased The Foxes Covert Licensed & Grocery business in Tallaght Village.
The Development of The Molloy Taverns Group
Kevin Molloy (Chief Executive) assumed a lead role in the family business in his early teens after his father’s death. He took over the full running of the business in the late 1960’s, while still in his early 20’s. Kevin began to develop The Foxes Covert, recognising the need to meet the demand of the rapidly expanding population of Tallaght and its hinterland during the late 1960’s and 1970’s. He proceeded to establish what became known as The Molloy Taverns Group of pubs during the seventies.
Today the Group’s on-trade activities place it among the largest customers of the trade suppliers such as Guinness, Murphy/Heineken, Irish Distillers and others. Continued growth in turnover is a reflection of the Group’s commitment to monitoring and analysing current sales trends and changes in customer demands, along with strategic planning for future market changes, its implementation of a commitment to customer care and to supplying top quality products at all times.
A constant programme of upgrading all Molloy Group on-trade premises is maintained, keeping all premises at the leading edge of industry best practice and in line with customer trends and requirements.
The Development of Molloys Liquor Stores
The 1980’s saw The Molloy Group venturing into the off-sales business commencing in 1980/81 when a number of small off-licences were opened. These were attached to the Group’s existing licensed premises and were later enlarged to meet the growth in demand.
By the late 1980’s, the Molloys Liquor Stores branding was being developed, supported by extensive radio and newspaper advertising. During the late 1980’s and into the 1990’s new, larger, stand-alone stores were established, with each store offering a wide range of wines, spirits and beers.
Commitment to customer care is paramount and a continuous programme of monitoring customer service is in place.
